boomBottle

If you’ve got water in the bottle cage on your bicycle, it might be time to find it a new home, because you might want to replace it with the boomBottle by Scosche. Of course the word boom, creates all kinds of imagery, but this has nothing to do with dangerous liquids, nor any liquids or bottles for that matter. It’s a funky new rugged weatherproof bicycle speaker so you can listen to your tunes streamed from your wireless device while on the road.

It’s not just a speaker that looks like a regular water bottle; it’s more than that. It features a sturdy non-slip shell designed to withstand vibrations from cycling or even drops from the bike in the event that you hit a bump. If you do, its shock absorbing feature should protect the speaker system from any damage.

It’s not necessarily waterproof, but it is weatherproof, designed to keep the dust out as well as moisture and sweat. It has large rubberized buttons so you can easily adjust the volume or skip tracks while driving and your wireless device is put away. The charging and audio ports are protected by an easily accessible top flap.

In the bottle, if that’s what we can call it, are dual 40 mm drivers that feature omnidirectional diffusers designed to pump out sound in a 360° pattern, so you can still hear it while sitting on or off your bike. It also features a decent size passive subwoofer incorporated with the shape of the enclosure in mind, to offer a respectable bass output.

While it’s designed primarily to be used in the space occupied by your bicycle’s bottle cage, realistically, it can be used virtually anywhere. It also has a built-in microphone, so it can be used as a speakerphone for conversations.

It runs off a built-in rechargeable lithium ion battery that’s expected to last up to 10 hours on a single charge. Since it does use standard Bluetooth, it will offer a wireless range of about 30 feet if necessary.

The boomBottle by Scosche retails for $149.99 U.S. and is available directly from their site. It includes a micro-USB charging cable and a metal caribineer clip for attaching to your gear.

To make sure that you’re colour-coordinated with whatever two wheeled cycle you’re using, Scosche has just announced that boomBottle is now available in blue, green, pink and yellow in addition to the original standard grey.
